World Diabetes Day: Know Your Sugar Levels
By IKAN Laboratory Team · 25 August 2026
Diabetes develops when the body can no longer control blood sugar properly. Early on there may be no symptoms at all, which is why screening matters.
Warning signs to take seriously: excessive thirst, frequent urination, unexplained weight loss, persistent tiredness, slow-healing wounds and blurred vision.
Two tests to know. Fasting blood glucose measures your sugar after an 8-hour fast. HbA1c shows your average control over the past three months and needs no fasting.
Prevention is practical: reduce sugary drinks, cut down on refined starches, walk for thirty minutes most days, and check your levels once a year after age 30.
Each World Diabetes Day, IKAN runs free community glucose checks. Watch our WHO Day Screenings page for the next event near you.
